League of Legends Worlds 2020 dates revealed for each stage during Tencent Esports Conference

Only one more month to go.

The dates for the 2020 League of Legends World Championship were recently revealed during Tencent’s annual Esports Conference.

Worlds will start on Sept. 25 and the winner will be crowned on Oct. 31 in the Pudong Soccer Stadium. All matches will be played in Shanghai as a safety measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The five stages will happen on these dates:

  • Play-in stage: Sept. 25 to 30
  • Group stage: Oct. 3 to 6, Oct. 8 to 11
  • Quarterfinals: Oct. 15 to 18
  • Semifinals: Oct. 24 to 25
  • Finals: Oct. 31

The World Championship is set to finish early this year since it usually ends in mid-November. Maybe the Halloween buff can help a Western team finally achieve its first Worlds win since season one.

With multiple countries canceling events and tournaments this year due to the coronavirus, the chances of having a World Championship in 2020 seemed slim. Multiple options were envisioned on what a World Championship during the pandemic would look like, but with no official information, all League fans could do was speculate.

On July 9, however, everything changed when Riot was in talks to use a “bubble system” to bring all qualified players together in the same city weeks before the actual tournament starts to ensure the safety and health of everyone involved. Worlds 2020 was then officially announced on July 31.

October is going to be a great month for many League fans, who will finally get to see their favorite domestic team clash with other international squads. Will this be the year for Western fans or will the LCK or LPL take home another win? Worlds 2020 begins on Sept. 25.
